A meteor falling
through celestial plains,
the train, shining within
with a clear amber light,
splices the night as
it cuts cleanly through
dark country, dense copse,
through deepening blue.
Speeding homeward,
close-quartered commuters
converse about finance & folly.
And
I
zone
out.
Their talk travels
from humdrum to hubub
and back again,
without ever. truly.
finding. home.
We arrive at a station
submerged in suburbia;
fluoresecent lamplight
refracts & diffuses
through raindrops scattered
across the pane dividing
platform from train.
And just for a moment
I am entranced
by the fall of yellow
light through speckled droplet.
Golden points spreading out,
defending against descending dark,
mesmerizing me with
Midas possibilities
of a life richer
than this.

I find commenting on poetry a little scary sometimes, its something i’m thoroughly ignorant of in terms of academic understanding. Thankfully I’m a human being who’s still capable of liking or loathing something regardless of how much i know about it! huzzah!
I really like this Amy, i can already hear that Scotrail engine rumbling in the back ground. takes me right back to my commute to perth, (4 times a week whilst i was at uni, from edinburgh) and i certainly spent many hours thinking of a life richer than that. I think when you’re feeling glum or lost the a dark rainey train journey can be an intense catalyst for wonder. perhaps because there’s bugger all to do on the damn things if you’ve forgotten your book or if you’re just too tired to do anything else!
I *really* like ‘Midas possibilities’ tis a cool turn of phrase
(actually i keep rereading this and i really love all of the imagery!)
Paddy Hare´s last blog ..Periferite: @amypalko haha yeah i bet! given how much i resented my parents for sending me to the wrong school for many years, i can’t say i lame you!
Mesmerising Amy. Here’s to a life richer than this x

Amy, this is beautiful with a bit of a haunting quality that left me breathless. On this dreary Monday morning this provided just the lift I needed.
