How many times have I walked up and down Edinburgh’s Royal Mile?
More times than I could ever possibly count.
How many times have I noticed the beauty of this one decorated brick in the side of John Knox’s house before last weekend?
Never.
Don’t you just love the gifts one receives from paying attention?
More than I could ever possibly say.
What gifts have you received recently?

The Royal Mile figures heavily into the story I’m reading; I have a vision of it in my head from the description in the book, but I bet it’s nothing like I imagine.
Amy, I went to the gardens at Ardnadam today and was just astonished to find them so full of colour so early in the year – wild bursts of pinks and luscious reds, the flowers unfolding with wild sensual abandon… it was fantastic, a surprise, and most definitely a gift.

I love posts and photos like this – the Daily Dose at http://www.nicky510.com often sends such images and “did you notice?” thingees every day.
When I was a child, I read a book called StoneFlight, a story about a girl to whom the stone carvings in NYC would come alive. It made me always look *up* at buildings to see what was engraved there….really a very eye-catching experience.

Buildings in old Scottish cities have beautiful rooflines and details – so much so, my kids have to keep telling me to watch where I’m going when I’m walking along! Beautiful photo, Amy, and another spooky coincidence. I’ve just used a similar one of a Perth doorway in a post!
Amy,
This is just one of those exceptional unexpected gifts today. I love to think of the idea and the hands that put that particular bit right there in that spot, once upon a time. No ordinary heart or mind, that one. And here you’ve passed it on. Thank you so very much. Deep oohs and ahhs here.
