Paintings & Photographs

I was struck the other day there by a comment left by WonderWebby on one of my Flickr photos in which she said that it reminded her of a Van Gogh painting.  I’ve been finding this a lot recently, that photographs that I’ve taken of the natural world later remind me of paintings.  See what you think:

Interesting, isn’t it!  Have you ever taken a photograph that later reminded you of a famous painting?

I have your blog bookmarked in my AOL Favourites, in a file called craft/photography/yummy to look at blogs! You’re in there with photographers, people who knit and craft, who love buttons and kitchens and scrumptious design. Your photos are exquisite – they’re what brought me to your blog in the first place. Your personality, writing and thoughts were a lovely bonus! All blogs and bloggers have their gifts, their attraction and usefulness, but to be honest, I go through phases where it’s refreshing to come to a blog that doesn’t scream monetisation the minute I log on. You’re a constant reminder to me of why I wanted to blog in the first place. You make me proud to be Scottish. ~Janice

  • Wonder Wobbly is correct. How insightful!

  • I don’t think this has ever happened to me, but in your case the resemblance is striking!

  • Amy, the resemblance is amazing but not surprising. You have an incredible gift and your vision is much like the masters. It gives me chills to think that centuries later our eyes travel over the same natural beauty that inspired these timeless works of art. I am of course “girl without camera,” but even if I had one I am fairly certain none of my photographs would resemble art, unless you count fingerpainting. :-)

  • I’ve never studied photography, but I’ve spent a lot of time in art museums. So I often think of paintings when I’m trying to compose a shot. Anything I know about composition (which isn’t all that much) comes from artwork I’ve seen.
