I took this photo earlier this month whilst visiting Edinburgh’s Botanical Gardens. I just love wandering around these paths, sitting and dreaming on these benches, admiring the flowers, gazing up at trees and laughing at squirrels. One of the things I particularly like doing at the gardens though, is taking photographs. Normally I take close up macros of flowers, leaves and seedheads; however, on this particular day I was struck by the total lack of people in the gardens. It’s normally bustling with people: lovers kissing, children chasing pigeons, elderly gentlemen reading newspapers, groups of friends strolling and chatting. But on this particular day… no-one. Was a strange feeling, but, after a while, I began to pretend it was my own private space. A luxury I probably won’t experience until I next visit the gardens on a very cold day in January.
Where was the last place you visited that was completely deserted? How did it make you feel?

I have relatives in Edinburgh! The last place I visited that was deserted was Superstition Mountain. I went on a 4 hour hike with a friend. We took the wrong trail and never saw another person. It was lovely. I’m going back Saturday

Amy, I haven’t been in a place that looked so empty for a long time! But the Bucharest botanical garden, if visited at the right time of day, can provide a similar feeling. Whenever you need to clear your mind, you can take long walks with nearly no one crossing your path. This post of yours has really made me want to go there again. Too bad the weather is not good for such a plan.
