John Muir is one of my favourite sources for nature quotes. Here are some that I find particularly inspiring:
- I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in. ~John Muir
- Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. ~John Muir
- Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul. ~John Muir
- When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world. ~John Muir
- The grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls. ~John Muir
Which one do you like best? What’s your favourite quote about nature?

Wonderful selection of quotes to go with that picture Amy, thank you.
I guess my favourite from these would be: “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings”
Although I don’t climb mountains (I tend to go around not up!) they do definitely speak to me.
I went to see a play in Skye last summer about John Muir – it was very powerful. He started off from such humble beginnings, and yet his influence made such a tremendous difference to the landscape of the U.S.
Joanna
PS It’s not a quote but ‘The Sun’ by Mary Oliver is one of the most moving things I’ve ever read about nature

Hi Amy,
I am unfamiliar with John Muir. Very nice.
I like “Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.” ~John Muir
I’ll add it to the (20 pages of) quotes that I have saved.
Here are two quotes that I like about nature.
“Forget not that the Earth delights to feel your bare feet and the Winds long to play with your hair.” Kahlil Gibran
&
“Live each season as it passes, breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.” Henry David Thoreau
The Thoreau quote reminds me of your Autumn Photo Challenge – in going out to take photos on that gorgeous crisp Autumn day, it felt like I lived the season more fully, breathed deeply the fresh air as I walked the neighbourhood and indeed resigned myself to it’s influence. (A glass of wine, an apple and some butternut squash soup would have nicely completed his quote!)
All the best,
EVA

I quite like the third one you have listed. Favorite nature quote? Oh, dear heavens. I can’t decide. Perhaps it’s the one about walking gentle on this Earth.
So…have you ever been to California?
No wise words or favorite quotes to add but I especially like the fourth quote on your post!
“When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world. ~John Muir
Thank you amy for always giving me something to ponder and brightening my day :0)
What a treat to see your gorgeous photos. Thank you so very much for sharing your little piece of heaven.
