Amy, the photos you and your son took are simply amazing! And you are right, we should try to remind ourselves more often that most things are not even close to permanent. Amy,
I really enjoyed your post and the fact that your son got to shoot from his vantage point. We bought a camera for my 11 year old nephew a year or so ago and he takes pictures all the time.
I also wanted to share something similar to the subject of the images with you. I work at the University of Florida in the Digital Library Center and we did a project a while ago that I thought you might find interesting. Here in Gainesville, Florida there is a wall along the side of one of the main north south roads and for years and years (nobody remembers exactly how many), the locals and the college students have used it for painting messages of all kinds. Our project was to try to document some of these, both from the present and from the past. We invited people to donate their snap shots of what they had painted on the wall or just what they had taken pictures of on the wall.

We have a guy here who can paint the most amazing murals with spray paint. He did a series for the art museum where he recreated their paintings as murals. Amazing, really. And so beautiful. People are so talented – like you and your son!

I love the fact that you “passed” the camera to your son and shared the experience so that both of you could look through the camera and offer different viewpoints.
