Buttons

Throughout her years as a dressmaker, my grandma has accrued an enormous treasure trove of haberdashery. She has bags, boxes, and tins filled to the brim with ribbons, fabric, yarn, patterns and thread, but it was the buttons that I wanted to look through when I was there yesterday. I had this idea that I would customise some of the basics (t-shirts, knitwear, jackets, denim etc.) that I seem to have in abundance, and make them a little bit more special. Well, if you have ever been looking for shells along a long stretch of sand then you will understand the joy of trawling through tins and tins of buttons. Often the plainest buttons, when turned right side up, would reveal themselves to be beautiful: lace-cut, textured, pearlescent, wooden, brass, retro, mother-of-pearl, shiny.

And yet, herein lies the problem… so many beautiful buttons, so many completely plain jumpers, t-shirts, cardigans, jackets. I have become completely overwhelmed by options. So, if anyone has any ideas as to what I should do with my haul and my distinctly unfunky clothing, let me know!
